Positive mindset…mindfulness…I find this topic, or you could say pillar of a healthy well-rounded person the most difficult to be consistent at. It is very hard to change how you perceive the world let alone how you perceive yourself. This thought process has become engrained in our brains from a very young age. But, it is our daily choice. We can either choose to perceive the world as our enemy or friend. Do you make decisions based on fear of failing or because something truly makes you happy and is going to enrich your life?
Also, what is your self-talk like? Are you your worst critic or biggest supporter? The conversations you have with yourself may be the most important you have through out the day. Consider this, you come into this world alone and leave alone. You’ve got to love yourself and accept the things you really don’t want to love. If you want to change, create a plan and set attainable goals.
Why should you speak kindly to yourself? There was a study done that concluded even one single negative word activates your amygdala (fear center of the brain) causing the body to release stress hormones and neurotransmitters that interrupt normal activity. Negative words can decrease the function of the frontal lobe (moderator of logic and reasoning centers) and no surprise positive words activate your frontal lobe and motor cortex. Increasing the amount of positivity running through your mind literally improves the function of your brain. (1) We know stress hormones are the root cause of disease processes, if one negative thought can cause the body to release stress hormones most of us have some serious work to do.
Positive outlook is associated with better coping mechanisms which decreases the detrimental effects of stress along with a whole host of positive health implications, you know like living longer. So, specifically related to fertility a stressed-out body is not the environment that is required to house a growing baby. Our emotions are so powerful, who has had a shortened or lengthened period during a time of high stress? Do you think your body is focused on releasing a healthy egg and implantation? No, its triggered into survival mode and the most primitive parts of our brain are activated. We aren’t made to procreate when we are under stress especially chronic stress. Given the current state of our world and our hectic lifestyles consider giving yourself the time and space you need to improve your mindset.
